I was honored to work under Ken Weaver’s direction of the Cannon Mine Tailings impoundment. We pumped about one million dollars worth of grout into the rock foundations to create the embankment for the tailings impoundment. Now the mine is worked out and the site reclaimed. I cannot even find the impoundment on Google.earth.
I have lost my copy of the book Ken wrote on grouting. So I am delighted to see that he has revised and expanded the classic original. Now called Dam Foundation Grouting: Revised and Expanded Edition published in 2007 by the American Society of Civil engineers.
Because I liked and respect Ken and learnt much from his book, here is the synopsis from that ASEC:
This book provides a state-of-the-practice review of all aspects of drilling and grouting-based technologies used for dam foundations treatments. Like its first edition, this book provides readers with background information and guidance to help them understand and deal more confidently with issues related to the design, construction, supervision, analysis, and review of grouting programs.
