A major milestone has been reached in the multi year process associated with development of the International Cyanide Management Code for gold mining operations. The Glamis Marigold Mine located in Nevada becomes the first operating mine certified under the Code along with its supplier and transporter of cyanide. This gold mining operation originally owned by Glamis has been recently acquired by Goldcorp which has itself recently merged with Barrick. Although many have remained skeptical the Code would become reality, this initial certification of an operating facility demonstrates the process can work. The key now is for this operation to remain in compliance with the Code as many other operations move toward certification themselves. Below are the links to the announcement, auditor certifications, and the audit findings.
