The objective of this work is to apply robotics technology as it is currently practiced in the manufacturing industry to applications in the mining industry, hence Mining Robotics.

Some possible applications that CSIRO has considered include:

  • Unmanned rock breaker operation at grizzlies
  • Automated bolting - as a separate machine or integrated onto the development jumbo
  • Automatic shotcreting
  • Automated drifting where the holes are drilled to a predefined pattern
  • Automated charging
  • Remote secondary breaking inside drawpoints/stopes
